Colin Kaepernick is planning to publish a memoir in 2020 that promises to give the public new insight into his activism and NFL exile.
The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, who has essentially been blackballed from the NFL for kneeling in protest during the National Anthem, announced that he will release his memoir through his own publishing company, Kaepernick Publishing.
The announcement reads, “Part political awakening and part memoir, Kaepernick’s memoir will reveal the life experiences that led him to risk his career as a star NFL Super Bowl quarterback in one silent act of protest.”
“My protest was the culmination of years of thought and experiences, of learning and unlearning. I want to tell the story of my evolution, and the events that led me to protest systemic oppression, in hopes that it will inspire others to rise in action,” said Kaepernick. “I am excited that through this groundbreaking partnership between Kaepernick Publishing and Audible, we can elevate Black and Brown voices who can empower future generations.”
In a recent interview, Kaepernick expressed a strong desire to get back into the NFL.
“I learned early on that in fighting against systematic oppression, dehumanization and colonization, who controls the narrative shapes the reality of how the world views society. It controls who’s loved, who’s hated, who’s degraded and who’s celebrated,” Kaepernick said according to USA Today’s Jarrett Bell. “My desire to play football is still there. I still train five days a week. I’m ready to go, I’m ready for a phone call, tryout, workout at any point in time. I’m still waiting on the owners and their partners to stop running from this situation. So I hope I get a call this offseason. I’ll be looking forward to it.”
