Colin Kaepernick may not want to return to the NFL, but it appears no teams have any time to deal with his recurring attempt at trying to get back into the league.
Kaepernick continues to express interest in making an NFL comeback, but that door has likely been sealed shut.
A source close to the Daily Mail told the outlet that NFL teams have unanimously decided to not pursue Kaepernick.
“Even with the recent injury to Joe Burrow and the likelihood of other NFL QBs getting injured this season, there is no scenario, where even if and when talked about, that Colin Kaepernick and Tom Brady would come and fill those voids and sign with an NFL team this season,” the report states.
“Tom is retired for good, he’s done and Colin, no matter how many workouts he does for teams or private workouts he does with current players, no team is signing him, and no team is signing them.
“Every team has its backups and is clearly not hoping for injury, but when and if it occurs there will be no attempt to ask either player to join their team, it is just not going to happen. GMs will look elsewhere.”
The injury to Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has led to speculation that they could sign a veteran quarterback on a short-term deal, but it won’t be Kaepernick. That goes for any other team that suffers an injury at the quarterback position.
Kaepernick hasn’t played since becoming a free agent after the 2016 season which was filled with him being on every major headline over him kneeling during the National Anthem.
The 35-year-old has worked out with the Raiders as recently as 2022 and continues to keep himself in good shape ahead of a potential return. With this new report, it seems his hard work will be for nothing.
