In the aftermath of the sign-stealing accusations, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh’s future with the program is clouded in mystery. Despite the controversy, Harbaugh still led his Michigan Wolverines team to a National Championship victory over the Washington Huskies.
Even before he won, there were several reports that Harbaugh would be leaving college football and headed back to the NFL.
Harbaugh hasn’t coached in the league since the San Francisco 49ers fired him. The quarterback who helped the team get to the Super Bowl was Colin Kaepernick. They both got to Super Bowl XLVII in 2013 against the Baltimore Ravens.
Their success together is part of the reason why Kaepernick thinks Harbaugh should be the coach team’s call if they want to compete for a title.
“Harbaugh is the one coach you call when you want to compete for a championship. Period,” Kaepernick said, via Mike Freeman of USA Today.
After not starting a single game during his rookie season, the 2011 second-round pick wouldn’t see the field until Alex Smith suffered a concussion halfway through the 2012 regular season.
In what essentially equaled eight full games, Kaepernick threw for 1,814 yards while completing 62.4 percent of his passes. He had 15 total touchdowns, with just three interceptions.

With Harbaugh set to return to the league, it will also bring back rumors that the aging QB will finally get a chance to get back on a team.
This past regular season, rapper J. Cole on Tuesday evening revealed that ex-NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick reached out to the New York Jets asking to be considered for a spot on the practice squad. The Jets never took him up on his offer.
