Colin Kaepernick is once again going viral for a strong message he is trying to send to the masses. Over the past few days, he has being catching criticism for comparing the treatment of players at the NFL combine to slavery. The comparison was made in the coming-of-age Netflix series following Kaepernick’s high school years called “Colin in Black & White,” which premiered Friday.
“Coaches will tell you they’re looking for warriors, killers, beasts,” he said. “They say they want you to be an animal out there. And you wanna give them that. … What they don’t want you to understand, is what’s being established is a power dynamic.”
The free agent NFL quarterback and activist was hardly done with his message. He is now calling out prominent Black TV characters like Carlton Bansk from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Steve Urkel from Family Matters.
“Over the years, there have been some very popular TV shows starring Black people. These shows share archetypal Black characters, inclduing social outcasts who assimilate or conform.”

Kaepernick was a second-round draft pick in 2011 and helped lead the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2013, establishing himself as one of the league’s most dynamic quarterbacks.
In 2016, his career was upended when he knelt during a preseason game to quietly protest racial injustice and police brutality in the United States.
Kaepernick, who accused the NFL of blackballing him and settled a “collusion grievance” with the league in 2019, has since turned his attention to civil rights.
