Colin Kaepernick has discussed his future as it pertains to football.
The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback has been out of the NFL since the 2016 season but hasn’t given up on a return to the professional game and is staying ready.
The activist has a lot going for him out there and is fielding numerous business opportunities unrelated to football, however, he is still passionate about it and recently revealed to Sports Illustrated’s Gilberto Manzano that he’s training for another potential stint in the league.
Kap, who had a workout with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022, is keen on reminding people of what he can do on a football field.
“I’m going to keep pushing,” he said. “I’m going to keep fighting for it because I know I can step on the field and play. Every workout, every opportunity I’ve had to show that, the feedback has always been positive. Everything from, ‘He’s still an elite player,’ to ‘The workout was great; it was better than expected.’
“When I had my workout with the Raiders last year, even training with guys, there’s a decent amount of people who may have forgotten what I was capable of doing on the field, so any chance to be able to remind people of what I can do out there, I look forward to and embrace, and I look forward to the day that I get to step on the field and show people what I can do.”
We’ll just have to wait and see whether a team opts to take a chance on a 35-year-old QB who hasn’t played in the league for over six years. But there are other options, with the XFL having returned to complete a full campaign this year.
