Could Colin Kaepernick be making his much-anticipated return to the National Football League in 2020?
The answer appears to be a resounding yes as NFL.com’s Michael Silver reports, “there is some legitimate interest from at least a couple of teams.” Silver added that he has spoken with one NFL head coach “who is absolutely interested.”
Silver also mentioned medical testing as a complicating factor when it comes to signing Kaepernick because current league rules amid the coronavirus pandemic prohibit such private workouts.
“We’re looking at a holding pattern creeping up toward the start of training camp,” he said.
Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said during a video media conference just last week that “it would be crazy” not to have Kaepernick on the Chargers’ workout list.
“I haven’t spoken with Colin, not sure where he’s at as far in his career, what he wants to do, but Colin definitely fits the style of quarterback for the system that we’re going to be running,” Lynn said. “I’m very confident and happy with the three quarterbacks that I have but you can never have too many people waiting on the runway.”
Kaepernick, of course, hasn’t played a down of NFL football since the end of the 2016 season, which he began by kneeling during the playing of the National Anthem as a to protest of racial injustice and police brutality in the United States.
