A lot of people do not like Colin Kaepernick because of what he did on the field before games seven years ago and that will never change no matter how many good things he does in his post-career.
Former New York Yankees pitcher David Wells recently shared his strong opinions on social justice causes in an interview with Fox Business.
The New York Yankees legend and World Series champion has a beef with Nike that became known this month when he taped over the Nike swoosh logo on his uniform as part of the Yankees’ Old Timers Day. In the interview with Bartiromo, he made his feelings on the athletic wear manufacturer even more clear: “I hate Nike.”
He explained that his dislike started with the company’s support of former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
“When Kaepernick took the knee, and you know, against our national anthem—and I’m a huge, huge military supporter; that’s what my foundation is all about—for Nike to jump on board and reward this guy for that, you know, and the things that are going on,” Wells said. “I told myself if I was playing in today’s game, and we had Nike jerseys, I’d tape it up, I’d cut a hole in it.”
Wells also took aim at transgender women participating in women’s sports.

“Be what you want to be. I don’t have a problem if you want to be transgender, you want to be this, you want to be that, that is fine. But when you’re going to go in marketing and then you’re going to push that narrative and you’re going to push those values towards the other side and,” Wells clarified, “neglect the everyday consumer. A lot of people drink Bud Light, and to me, it’s just the wrong message to send.”
“They’re sending the wrong message. They’re doing it wrong,” he added. “You’re going to lose the customers, which Bud Light already did… But to me, Bud Light, they screwed up big time and they’ve lost it.”
Wells gave major praise to the work of former Kentucky Wildcats swimmer and anti-transgender activist Riley Gaines.
“Riley Gaines, I mean, she is so spot on when it comes to transgender (athletes) in sports; men playing women’s sports. It’s just you can’t do that. It’s not right, and it’s dangerous.
“If I was to say, I’m going to switch over, and I’m going to go play women’s sports, I’m gonna hurt somebody, especially if I’m throwing 95 (MPH).”
Wells is also the founder of the veteran-based Perfect 33 Foundation. He said his appreciation for US military men and women is what inspired him to tape up the Nike logo on his jersey earlier this month.
Colin Kaepernick recently got turned down for the chance to return to the NFL when his agent reached out to the New York Jets after they lost Aaron Rodgers for the season.
