“NFL rigged” has been a trending topic since the end of the Chiefs-Bengals game. It happened as a result of many questionable calls and non-calls that seemingly went the way of the Kansas City Chiefs as they battled the Cincinnati Bengals.
Colin Cowherd recently voiced his opinion on the matter.
“Shadowy NFL figure [said] ‘Ok, let’s rig the league by having mega brands like the Steelers, Packers miss the playoffs & put the Jags in. Also, have key TV markets like DC, NY, Houston, Chicago, Atlanta be consistently bad. Oh yea, always bounce popular Dallas from the playoffs early.’”
One of the biggest moments of the game is when the Bengals punted the ball away to Kansas City with the game tied at 20. Chiefs receiver Skyy Moore took the punt return 29 yards, but the refs seemed to swallow their whistle on a missed block in the back penalty.
A couple of plays later, Joseph Ossai’s brutal late hit on Patrick Mahomes put the Chiefs in field-goal range, but a missed holding penalty would’ve offset both penalties.
Another instance was the Chiefs getting two chances at a third down when a ref claimed he called a previous play dead without using his whistle. It resulted in the Bengals committing a penalty and giving the Chiefs a fresh set of downs. Nothing came of the drive but the used up time would’ve mattered at the end of the game.
