Colin Cowherd has dropped some significant news regarding Caleb Williams amid rumors that the quarterback would prefer not to play for the Chicago Bears.
While the Bears have the No. 1 overall pick heading into the 2024 NFL Draft, there’s talk that the former USC Trojans star does not want to be drafted by the NFC North side. The Las Vegas Raiders are now thought to be his preferred destination as Kliff Kingsbury is set to be the offensive coordinator there next season, having worked with the player as a quarterbacks coach in 2023.
Cowherd was among the sources claiming that Williams doesn’t want to join the Bears but, speaking on ‘The Herd’ this Friday, revealed having received a call from the QB’s camp saying that they “don’t want to be painted as anti-Chicago and we don’t want to be painted as anti-Bear.”
“I do think it’s possible that Washington trades up and Chicago allows Washington to trade up. Because Caleb and his group do not want to go to Chicago,” Cowherd said previously. “He’s from the D.C. area. I think Dan Quinn is considered. The big concern for Caleb Williams, and you have to admit this, where you land matters. Chicago has never developed a star quarterback.”
While the rumor has been around for some time, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport noted that the former Heisman “enters the process excited for whoever ends up selecting him,” after he declared for the draft last month.
Chicago fans are set for an interesting time as drafting Williams would mean the end of Justin Fields’ career as their QB. Should they opt to stick with their starting quarterback, the possibilities would still be intriguing as they could either draft a top receiver or trade their pick for significant assets.
