FS1’s Colin Cowherd thinks the Pittsburgh Steelers should go all-in for a generational quarterback prospect, even if it means trading the face of their franchise.
Speaking on the latest edition of “The Herd with Colin Cowherd”, the veteran sports personality suggested that the Steelers trade superstar pass-rusher T.J. Watt, promising young wideout George Pickens and three first-round picks for Caleb Williams.
Of course, we’re a long way’s away from learning the winner of the Williams sweepstakes. There are currently four 0-3 teams in the Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers.
Carolina gave up a king’s ransom to move up and take Bryce Young first overall, so they’d be out on the Williams sweepstakes. But the Bears, Vikings and Broncos would likely all be willing to move on from their current quarterbacks (Justin Fields in Chicago, Kirk Cousins in Minny and Russell Wilson in Denver) if they got the chance to take Williams first overall.
Cowherd’s proposal is certainly enticing, but it’s hard to envision the Steelers giving up their franchise player in Watt and an up-and-coming star like Pickens, along with three firsts, for Williams.
Pittsburgh seems happy with 2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett, who has shown considerable improvement in the early going following an inconsistent rookie season.
