The Cleveland Browns have unveiled their new alternate helmet ahead of the 2023 NFL season, when they will be wearing white headgear for the first time in over 70 years.
The team made the reveal in a video on Tuesday, showing off a cool white piece with an orange stripe between two dark brown stripes running through the middle also bearing a metallic brown facemask. The new helmets will be worn against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2, the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6, and the New York Jets in Week 17.
The helmets will accompany all-white uniforms with the usual orange and brown striping. But there is some added flare to the classic look given the brown number and orange shadow piping.
Cleveland made its football debut with all-white headgear in 1946 before switching to orange in 1951.
The unveiling comes on the back of the team revealing its new “dawg” logo in June. The logo was finalized after a competition inviting fans to submit and vote on renderings.
The Browns have made a few changes to their look in recent years and are now making use of the new alternate helmet rule that was approved in 2022.
