A fascinating trade proposal has the Cleveland Browns sending superstar defensive end Myles Garrett to an NFC powerhouse in a move that would net the franchise a new quarterback to replace Deshaun Watson.
One year after stunning the NFL by making the playoffs with an 11-6 record, the Browns endured arguably their most disappointing season in franchise history. Despite another excellent year from Myles Garrett, the Browns finished with a woeful 3-14 record to land the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
With the Browns several pieces away from contending again, many speculate that they could shop Garrett for a monstrous return. The 2023 Defensive Player of the Year had 14 sacks and three forced fumbles in 2024 and is signed through 2026.
Speaking on “NFL Live”, ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky proposed a blockbuster trade idea that has Cleveland trading Myles Garrett to the Minnesota Vikings for rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
Interestingly, Orlovsky also wondered if the Browns would throw in the No. 2 pick to Minny to complete the trade.
“And I entertain the idea…calling the Minnesota Vikings, maybe if they don’t like somebody in the draft, and saying, ‘Are you willing to part with J.J. McCarthy? He’s cheap…and having a conversation around Myles Garrett and/or that No. 2 draft pick.”

The Browns are stuck to quarterback Deshaun Watson for at least one more season after restructuring his deal. The team announced today that Watson tore his Achilles again and required surgery, adding that he could miss 2025.
As Orlovsky pointed out, the Browns don’t have the cap space to take on another major quarterback contract. But with J.J. McCarthy on a cheap rookie deal, he makes sense as a trade candidate if Minnesota decides to move forward with Sam Darnold.
Trading Myles Garrett May Be Browns’ Best Option
As great as Myles Garrett has been, the Browns’ should definitely consider trading him and getting valuable assets to help a retool.
The Browns have too many roster flaws that Garrett can’t single-handedly mask on his own. And if they could somehow land a new quarterback in a blockbuster trade as part of a return for Garrett.
