The Cleveland Browns apparently still think highly of Baker Mayfield, just not enough to have him play football for them ever again. After trading for Deshaun Watson, the Browns are looking to acquire a first-round pick in exchange for Baker, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.
Before Watson ever landed in Cleveland, Mayfield had demanded a trade after he thought the team was going after Kirk Cousins. They originally weren’t going to honor his request, but Watson is now the face of the franchsie and the team is asking for a lot to part ways with the first overall pick from 2018.
The Colts, Commanders, Falcons and Saints all appear to have found their quarterbacks this past week, so there’s not many teams left who would think to part ways with such a high draft pick for Mayfield. The only team that comes to mind is the Seahawks, who traded Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos earlier this offseason.
The Panthers have already stated they are not interested in Mayfield.
The 26-year-old Mayfield played through several injuries in 2021. He finished the season with 3,010 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 14 games.
He may still be on the Browns roster during the NFL Draft, but something may materialize with so much movement expected on that night.
