Jimmy Haslam and Haslam Sports Group are in discussions to purchase a share of an NBA team.
According to The Athletic, Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is in “serious talks” to buy current co-owner Marc Lasry’s shares in the Milwaukee Bucks. Lasry’s stake in the Bucks is about 25% of the team. Lasry and co-owner Wes Edens bought the Bucks from Herb Kohl for $550 million in 2014.
There is no timeline for an agreement or sale.
The Haslams, who purchased the Browns in 2012 for $1.05 billion, have explored buying other pro teams, including the Minnesota Timberwolves in the past.
The Haslams’ tenure as NFL owners has been quite bad. Cleveland has gone 60-119-1 and had one playoff appearance in the past 11 seasons. The team has also had six full-time coaches in that span.
The Bucks have been a model of consistency as they have not produced a losing season since the 2015-2016 season. They have six-straight seasons of going to the playoffs, with one NBA title victory.
