If Baker Mayfield felt unwanted and not thought highly of by the Cleveland Browns, then he is really in for a rude awakening about how other teams think so low of him as a quarterback.
Mayfield reportedly had high hopes of going to the Colts in a trade, but the team decided to go with 36-year-old Matt Ryan instead.
The Browns gave up a lot to acquire Deshaun Watson, and if they had hopes of recouping some of that draft picks back, they are sadly mistaken.
Per Adam Schefter via Dov Kleiman, “The Browns had conversation with team about Baker [Mayfield] and the team asked for a pick from the Browns to take Mayfield’s contract.” Adding, “If anyone thinks they’re going to get a high premium pick for Baker Mayfield they’re mistaken.”
According to a report by Mary Kay Cabot, Mayfield’s trade demand was likely the cattalyst that pushed Cleveland to offer Watson the historic guaranteed contract that sealed the deal for the trade. Cabot wrote that Mayfield planned to skip all activities with the team:
“Baker Mayfield’s trade request to the Browns on Thursday and word from his reps that he no plans on playing for them in 2022 may have revived the blockbuster deal for Deshaun Watson, a league source told cleveland.com.”

While Cleveland has not traded Mayfield yet, it is expected.
Based on Cabot’s report and Mayfield’s “goodbye letter” post on social media, it seems the QB had no intentions of returning to Cleveland.
The feeling was clearly mutual.
