The Cleveland Browns are turning to a former Super Bowl MVP for Sunday’s pivotal Week 13 clash against the Los Angeles Rams.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Browns will be starting the recently-signed Joe Flacco at SoFi Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who’s still in concussion protocol, will be out.
Flacco will be the Browns’ fourth starting quarterback this year. Starting QB Deshaun Watson is out for the year after requiring surgery on a shoulder injury. Journeyman P.J. Walker made two starts before Watson’s season-ending injury, and Thompson-Robinson started the club’s Week 11 and Week 12 games.
The 38-year-old Flacco spent the last three seasons with the New York Jets following a one-year stint with the Denver Broncos in 2019. Flacco spent his first 11 years with the Baltimore Ravens, leading them to a Super Bowl 47 title in the 2013 season.
The Browns enter Sunday with a 7-4 record. They currently occupy the sixth seed in the AFC, but a loss, an Indianapolis Colts’ win over the Tennessee Titans and a non-tie between the 6-5 Denver Broncos and Houston Texans (they play each other on Sunday) would drop Cleveland into a tie for the conference’s final two playoff spots.
The fifth-seeded Pittsburgh Steelers are also 7-4 entering Week 13, but they have the tiebreaker over the Browns. Needless to say, there’s a lot at stake for the Browns this Sunday.
