Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud turned in the soundbite of the year (at least so far), in Sunday’s thrilling 21-16 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
The “Inside the NFL” program showed Stroud displaying his humorous side while he was mic’d up in Week 11. After throwing a touchdown to tight end Dalton Schultz, Stroud tells coaches that he couldn’t grip the football because it was “wet.”
Stroud then goes over to teammate and center Michael Deiter, telling him, “You’re wet.” Stroud then asks for a towel and wipes around Deiter’s neck and chest area. In the second clip, Stroud asks for a second jersey for Deiter. A second one is provided for the 27-year-old
Despite throwing three interceptions, Stroud again led Houston to victory with a 336-yard, two-TD performance. The Texans are now 6-4 and hold the No. 6 seed in the AFC, though a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday would place them atop the AFC South.
The No. 2 pick of this year’s draft is on his way to Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. Stroud has completed 62.8 percent of his pass attempts for 2,962 passing yards and 17 touchdowns against only five interceptions.
The Texans have already surpassed their win totals from 2020 (four), 2021 (four) and 2022 (three). Barring a meltdown over their final seven games, Houston will punch its first ticket to the postseason in four years.
