Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is so popular that he’s garnering votes for mayor in the city of Westbrook, Maine…even though he’s not on the ballot.
Mayor Michael T. Foley is running unopposed for re-election. Yet, it didn’t stop some voters from deciding to cast votes for the Bills superstar quarterback anyway.
This prompted City Hall to put out a statement and emphasize to voters that Allen is a quarterback and NOT a candidate for mayor in Westbrook. The city also warned citizens that votes for Allen will be ruled as blanks.
Allen is so popular across the sporting world that he could easily win a mayoral race if he ever decided to join politics following his playing career. But of course, the 26-year-old isn’t about to leave football any time soon.
In the 2021 offeason, Allen agreed to a massive six-year contract extension worth $258 million. The deal keeps him signed through 2028, his age-32 season. But if Allen continues to play like this, he’ll surely land one or two more lucrative deals before the end of his playing career.
Buffalo is the best team in the AFC with a 5-1 record, thanks largely to the MVP-like play of the 2018 first-round pick.

Allen has completed 66.9 percent of his pass attempts for 1,980 yards and 17 touchdowns against only four interceptions. He’s also been a force on the ground, recording 257 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Allen and the Bills will look to improve to 6-1 on the season when they host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday evening.
If Allen ever decides to enter politics after football, he wouldn’t be the first notable ex-NFLer to do so. Pro Football Hall of Famers Alan Page, Lynn Swann and Steve Largent and Colorado Buffaloes legend Byron “Whizzer” White also entered the world of politics once they called it quits on the gridiron.
