The Cincinnati Bengals have lashed out at the Cleveland Browns following the unveiling of the latter’s new, white alternate helmet with claims that they’re a rip-off.
The Browns revealed their “clean” new look on Tuesday, announcing that their players will wear white helmets, for the first time in over 70 years, in three games during the upcoming 2023 season.
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, a Cleveland native, put his stamp of approval on the gear. However, the neighboring Bengals were not so happy with it and made their feelings known.
The team’s official Twitter account posted a video showing some old footage of owner Mike Brown speaking about the similar jerseys and colors back in the day, noting that former Browns owner believed Cincinnati “ripped off” Cleveland’s fit.
Simply put, the Bengals reckon it’s the other way around now.
The Browns have hit back, reminding the Bengals that they started wearing white helmets in 1946, before the latter was even a team.
