The Cincinnati Bengals have been hit with what must have been a painful transfer request this Wednesday.
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Trey Hendrickson has asked the team to trade him as he is keen on longer-term security than the team is willing to offer.
Hendrickson, 29, won’t be hitting free agency until 2025. Spotrac notes that he will make $14.8 million in base salary next season and $15.8 million in 2025.
“Bengals three-time Pro-Bowl DE Trey Hendrickson has requested to be traded from Cincinnati, per league source,” Schefter shared to Twitter/X on Wednesday afternoon. “Hendrickson is due to make $15 million this season, and is looking for more long-term security than Cincinnati has been willing to offer.“
The DE registered a career-high 17.5 sacks in 2023 and has made 39.5 of them in his three seasons with the Bengals. He has also been a Pro Bowler in each of the last three seasons.

The Cincinnati Bengals Have Seen Two Star Players Request Trades This Offseason
The Cincinnati Bengals have had two of their star players ask to be traded this offseason. Wide receiver Tee Higgins is the other notable roster member to request a move ahead of the 2024 season.
Higgins, who was franchise-tagged this year, asked for a move last month. Still, he claimed he’s anticipating that he will suit up for the team next season.
The Bengals would hate to lose both players, yet may be forced into granting their wishes.
