When it was announced that Joe Burrow was done for the season with a wrist injury he sustained during Thursday Night Football against the Baltimore Ravens, everyone wondered where Cincinnati would go from here.
Would they sign a veteran signal-caller? Do they stick with Jake Browning for the rest of the season and hope he can do enough to get them into the postseason? Do they go with someone unproven with potential upside to back up Browning for the time being?
Based on recent reports, it appears as though the Bengals will be going with the latter two options, as they’re expected to sign former AFL and XFL quarterback Drew Plitt.
The 25-year-old was born and raised in Loveland, Ohio. He last played for the Arlington Renegades during the 2023 XFL season.
The undrafted quarterback out of Ball State is expected to join the team’s practice squad. And he should be somewhat familiar with their playbook, having spend time with Cincy during training camp in 2022.
As for Burrow, it’s a tough way to end a season that appeared to have so much promise in recent weeks. He’s expected to be fully recovered from the torn ligaments in his right wrist and should be ready for the start of the 2024 season, barring any setbacks.
