The Cincinnati Bengals have added to their receiving contingent with the acquisition of tight end Irv Smith Jr.
The team announced having officially signed the player to a one-year deal this Thursday, with the TE also making a short statement.
“I’m so excited to finally be a part of this,” he said in a video. “It’s a blessing to be a part of a great organization like this. I’m excited to win games and get to it. Let’s go.
“Who Dey!”
Smith was considered to be the best tight end left on the free agent market after a stint with the Minnesota Vikings. He was a star for the Alabama Crimson Tide in his college days and helped the program win a national championship in 2017.

News of Cincinnati’s intention to sign the player broke on Monday night, with Peter Schrager of the NFL Network reporting as much. It’s understood that Smith had offers from multiple teams but chose to join the Bengals as he admires their winning culture.
A second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Smith is heading into his fifth season as a pro.
He’s made 15 starts in 37 appearances and had a particularly impressive second year, during which he made 30 receptions for 365 yards and five touchdowns.
