The Cincinnati Bengals are using a fascinating offseason strategy to help Joe Burrow recover from wrist surgery, which ended his 2023 season.
Joe Burrow had the Bengals in playoff contention last season before unfortunately suffering a wrist injury in a Week 10 Thursday night game against the AFC North rival Baltimore Ravens.
Though backup Jake Browning performed surprisingly well in Burrow’s absence (4-3 as a starter), Cincy’s 9-8 finish was not enough to make the playoffs. And given the Bengals’ ability to challenge Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, there’s no telling how much different last season could have played out if Burrow had stayed healthy.
Some fans were concerned to learn that Joe Burrow missed Tuesday’s OTAs session, but head coach Zac Taylor told reporters that it’s all part of the recovery plan for their star signal-caller.
Per Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic, Taylor said part of the recovery plan includes Burrow getting the second day off each week. This is being done as a way “to keep him from pushing too hard.”
Burrow returned to practice on Wednesday.

Joe Burrow & Bengals Open Season vs. Patriots
The Bengals will kick off their 2024 season with a home tilt against the New England Patriots, entering year one of the post-Bill Belichick era.
Cincinnati won their previous meeting with the Patriots, a Week 16 contest at Gillette Stadium, by a final score of 22-18. The Bengals were on the cusp of losing before the defense forced a Rhamondre Stevenson fumble inside the 10-yard line with a minute remaining.
After that, the Bengals will travel to Kansas City to take on the defending champion Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
