With Joe Burrow suffering a calf strain in practice earlier this week, the Cincinnati Bengals are adding an XFL quarterback to their roster.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bengals are signing quarterback Reid Sinnett of the XFL’s San Antonio Brahmas.
The 6-foot-4 Sinnett has never played an NFL snap, but he was previously on the rosters of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles. Sinnett was last a member of the Dolphins in 2022, but the team released him soon after adding Sinnett to their practice squad.
Per Olivia Ray of WLWT, the Bengals are also working out XFL Arlington Renegades’ quarterback Drew Plitt.
Plitt played quarterback at Ball State from 2016 to 2021. He went undrafted in 2022 but was picked up by the Bengals late in the offseason. Despite a good showing in preseason play, Plitt failed to make the final roster and was subsequently let go.

Plitt then joined the Renegades before the revival of the XFL. Luis Perez was the Renegades’ main quarterback last season, with Plitt and Kyle Sloter also seeing playing time. Plitt completed 63 off 99 pass attempts for 688 yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions in four game appearances.
Veteran journeyman Trevor Siemian (the Denver Broncos’ main starter in the 2016 season), and undrafted Washington product Jake Browning are the other quarterbacks on Cincinnati’s roster. The reigning AFC runner-ups will open their 2023 season on the road against the AFC North rival Cleveland Browns on Sept. 10.
