The 2024 NFL season may very well be the best chance for te Cincinnati Bengals to win the Super Bowl over the next few years.
Quarterback Joe Burrow is entering the last year of his rookie contract, and then his $275 million extension begins in 2025. Superstar wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase also needs a new deal that will take up a significant portion of the Cincinnati Bengals’ long-term payroll.
On top of that, star No. 2 wideout Tee Higgins feels destined to leave in 2025 free agency after the two sides failed to reach an agreement a long-term deal. Higgins will play 2024 under the franchise tag.
Bengals de facto GM Duke Tobin should be highly motivated to make a big splash or two to bolster the roster around Joe Burrow. The running back position could use additional depth, and that’s where James Conner of the Arizona Cardinals comes into focus,
The two-time Pro Bowler is entering the final season of a three-year, $21 million contract. He carries a reasonable cap hit of $8.93 million for 2024, per OvertheCap.com.

The Cincinnati Bengals already traded former star running back Joe Mixon to the Houston Texans in a cap-saving move. They’re banking on free agent signing Zack Moss to replace Mixon’s production.
Despite missing four games in 2023, Conner rushed for a career-high 1,040 yards and seven touchdowns. The do-it-all playmaker has put up over 1,000 yards of offense in four of the last six seasons.
What Cincinnati Bengals Should Offer For James Conner
The running back is a devaluing position, and Conner is entering the final year of his rookie contract. So if Arizona is open to trading him, Conner shouldn’t cost more than a day three draft pick or two.
Cincinnati should offer Arizona a 2025 fourth-round draft pick for Conner, who would form a dynamic 1-2 rushing tandem with Moss. The trade would also open the door for promising rookie Trey Benson (the No. 66 pick) to take over as the RB1 in the dessert.
