Exhale, Cincinnati Bengals fans. Star quarterback Joe Burrow has avoided a serious injury following a scare at Thursday’s training camp session.
On late Thursday afternoon, Burrow had to be carted off after suffering an injury during training camp. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Bengals’ head coach Zac Taylor told reporters afterwards that Burrow suffered a calf strain.

It’s always scary when a player goes down with a non-contact injury the way Burrow did. Some folks immediately feared a season-ending injury like a torn ACL, but thankfully, Burrow avoided the worst case scenario.

Burrow suffered a torn ACL and MCL in the midst of his rookie 2020 season in a game against Washington that immediately ended his rookie campaign.
Burrow has only missed one game over the last two years, and that was a meaningless Week 18, 2021 game against the Cleveland Browns after Cincy had locked up the AFC North. Burrow was nursing a knee injury, and the Bengals understandably decided to play it safe.
After failing to win a single postseason game from 1991 to 2021, the Bengals have already won five playoff contests in the Burrow era. They played in the 2021 and 2022 AFC Championship Games and reached Super Bowl 56, narrowly falling to the Los Angeles Rams.
The Bengals will open their 2023 season with a road contest against the Browns on Sept. 10.
