The Cincinnati Bengals have made an interesting player pickup just days before their highly-anticipated AFC Championship showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs.
According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, Cincinnati picked up cornerback Chris Lammons off waivers from Kansas City. Meirov noted that the transaction is “deferred” until the day after Super Bowl 57.
So why is this interesting? As Meirov notes, the Chiefs can’t bring him back on their practice squad. And of course, the Bengals can try to get some information from him on Kansas City’s schemes and play calls.
The South Carolina product signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2018. Lammons joined the Chiefs’ practice squad late in the 2019 season and spent the next three years there, winning a Super Bowl 54 ring with the organization.
Cincinnati defeated Kansas City in overtime at Arrowhead in last year’s AFC Championship Game. Joe Burrow holds a perfect 3-0 record against the Chiefs (all one-score wins), but we’ll soon find out if Patrick Mahomes and company can get some long-awaited revenge this time.
