It’s sounding more and more likely that the Green Bay Packers will be without their top wide receiver for Sunday’s Week 1 opener against the Chicago Bears.
According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, wide receiver Christian Watson was again absent from Packers’ practice as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury. Watson was also sidelined for Wednesday’s session.
There was a positive update on fellow wideout Romeo Doubs, though. The second-year product missed Wednesday’s practice but returned to the field on Thursday, per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
Still, not having Watson for Sunday would make a victory that much more difficult for the Packers as they kick off year one of the post-Aaron Rodgers era. Watson had nine touchdowns (seven receiving, two rushing) in 14 games for the Packers last year.
Green Bay’s leading receiver of 2022, Allen Lazard, wound up signing with the New York Jets weeks before they landed Rodgers in a blockbuster trade. If Watson is out, Doubs and rookie Jayden Reed will likely be Jordan Love’s main go-to options in the passing game.

After visiting the Bears at Soldier Field on Sunday, the Packers will travel to Atlanta for a road contest against the Falcons. They’ll then return home for two games — a Week 3 showdown against the New Orleans Saints followed by a Week 4 contest against the Detroit Lions.
