The Green Bay Packers will be without one of their key offensive weapons in Sunday’s opener against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur announced that wide receiver Christian Watson will miss Sunday’s game as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury. Romeo Doubs, who’s also dealing with a hamstring injury, will be questionable.
It’s a tough break for Watson, whom many expect to enjoy a breakout year after showing flashes of future stardom in Green Bay last year. It also makes the task at hand that much more difficult for Jordan Love, who’s making just his second career start.
Watson was drafted in the second round (34th overall) by the Packers in 2022. He finished with seven receiving touchdowns (tied with Washington’s Jahan Dotson for the most among rookies) and two rushing scores.
In 14 games last season, the 6-foot-5 Watson hauled in 41 receptions for 611 yards. This included 100-yard outings against the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions.

Green Bay’s leading receiver of 2022, Allen Lazard, signed with the New York Jets in free agency before they completed the trade for Aaron Rodgers. If Doubs is also out, rookie Jayden Reed and sophomore Samori Toure can expect bigger roles in the passing game.
After visiting the Bears, Green Bay will travel south for a showdown with the Atlanta Falcons.
