Watching Zach Wilson is like watching Patrick Mahomes? Kellen Mond is a better quarterback than Justin Fields?…
These are the type of hot takes that should get any NFL analyst fired. Unfortunately, that’s unlikely to be the case for former NFL quarterback and current NBC analyst Chris Simms. But that doesn’t mean we still can’t troll the heck out of him for his absolutely brutal predictions from a few years ago.
Following Zach Wilson’s latest disastrous outing and subsequent benching, NFL insider Dov Kleiman decided to dig up some of Chris Simms’ old takes on the 2021 Draft class. And boy are they bad.
In one Tweet, Simms claims that watching Wilson “feels like I am watching Mahomes again.” And prior to the 2021 Draft, Simms dropped his quarterback prospect rankings, which not only had Wilson in the top spot ahead of Trevor Lawrence, but also had Cleveland Browns third-stringer Kellen Mond in the no. 4 spot, ahead of Chicago Bears superstar Justin Fields.
One year later, when asked why he placed Mond ahead of Fields, Simms said, “I don’t do rankings for popularity, I do them because I want to be a GM one day.”
It’s an incredibly contradictory statement when you think about it, because it seems like the only reasons someone would rank Mond ahead of Fields would be to try and grab some attention for their hot take.

Sadly, these aren’t the only terrible takes to come from Simms. Coming into this season, he had guys like Baker Mayfield, Zach Wilson and Matt Ryan (all of whom have been benched) ranked ahead of MVP front-runner Jalen Hurts in his quarterback rankings. And he also had Marcus Mariota ranked ahead of Tua Tagovailoa.
This is probably a good time to remind you that this is a former NFL QUARTERBACK(!!!) making these rankings. You’d think he would have a better idea of how to evaluate talent at the position.
If Simms seriously wants to be an NFL general manager one day, he better hope the league’s owners don’t get a hold of these hot takes. That could be hard to do, however, because the internet never forgets.
