Chris Simms is being blasted for what he had to say when it came time for him to discuss Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson’s disturbing past allegations.
Watson previously settled lawsuits with two dozen women who accused him of being inappropriate during massage therapy sessions while he played for the Texans. Two separate grand juries in Texas declined to indict Watson on criminal charges last year.
That led to him being traded to the Cleveland Browns.
Ahead of Thursday night’s kickoff to the NFL preseason between the Browns and the New York Jets, Simms described his off-the-field misconduct allegations as simply “issues” and him knocking rust off.

Watson’s recent off-field troubles led to an 11-game suspension and a $5 million fine after reaching a settlement with the NFL. Watson was accused by more than 24 women of misconduct during massage therapy sessions.
Part of the settlement with the NFL required Watson to undergo an evaluation and counseling for violating the league’s personal-conduct policy.
Watson spent some 700 days on the sideline between starts, sitting out the entire 2021 season. After his suspension, Watson was clearly rusty as the Browns went 3-3 in his starts.
