Former NFL defensive tackle Chris Baker has revealed he came close to dying, having suffered a stroke last week.
Baker, who is in recovery after the frightening ordeal, posted an Instagram story this week in which he wrote: “tell your loved ones you love ‘em, my life almost ended 2days [sic] ago.”
“I can’t believe I had a stroke,” he added. “But God not done with me yet.”
The former DT spent nine seasons in the league, five of them with the Washington Commanders.
He also posted a video from a hospital room in Hartford, Connecticut that shows him sitting up and talking to a nurse while appearing to be hooked on IVs.
Last week, TMZ broke a story in which Baker’s mother said he suffered a serious stroke but was responding well and was expected to make a full recovery. The former player needed emergency surgery in the wake of the terrifying event but is already back on his feet, as you can see in the video right below.

Baker, who went undrafted out of Hampton, was signed by the Denver Broncos in 2009. He only played one game for the team and would move to the Miami Dolphins, where he spent the 2010 season.
He then joined the Commanders, staying on for five years before joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017.
The 35-year-old signed with the Cincinnati Bengals the following spring but was released in August.
