The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are only two years removed from their Super Bowl LV victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. And despite Tom Brady’s recent retirement, they have no interest in undergoing a complete rebuild just yet.
According to the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Buccaneers’ top goal heading into 2023 will be to “retool while still competing.” The Bucs are well over the cap at the moment, having moved a lot of money into the future in order to compete for Super Bowls with Tom Brady.
That leaves them with little room to spend on a top quarterback this offseason, but according to Garafolo, Tampa still remains interested in bringing Jimmy Garoppolo aboard to replace his former teammate from their New England days.
As Garafolo points out, the Bucs may not be able to afford Garoppolo — in which case, the team has made it clear that they do “like” their 2021 second-round pick, Kyle Trask.
In their three seasons with Tom Brady under center, the Buccaneers made the playoffs each time, winning the Super Bowl in the 2000 season, before losing in the Divisional Round in 2021 and the Wild Card round this past season.

With a lot of star players still on their roster, the Bucs could realistically continue to compete for postseason berths in the weak NFC South. But with all of their cap issues and the GOAT out of the picture, the prospects of them actually competing for Super Bowls in the near future appears to be quite grim.
