The Kansas City Chiefs had a spectacular 2018 regular season that resulted in a playoff win against the Indianapolis Colts, but it would soon come to an end after they lost a coin toss in OT and could do nothing as they watched the New England Patriots march down the field and win the game.
Dynamic quarterback Patrick Mahomes never touching the ball in OT was a big talking point after that AFC Title game, and it will continue to be a talking point as the team doesn’t want something like that to happen ever again.
Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach said on PFT Live that head coach Andy Reid is working on a proposal to change the overtime rules and guarantee that each team would get an offensive possession.
“Coach is working on that,” Veach said. “I think everybody wants a chance for guys to do what they do. I don’t really see the downside of having that. Especially when you have a player like Pat Mahomes. It would have been a lot of fun. I think people, if they weren’t already tuned in for a great game, would have turned on that overtime.”
That’s going to be a tal task as the Chiefshave to convince 23 other teams to support this proposed rule change going forward.
