Tyrann Mathieu has always been considered an integral part of the Kansas City Chiefs’ success over the past three years. The team’s secondary had always been a major question mark prior to his arrival. However, in 2019 the Chiefs added the former Cardinals and Texans safety.
And wouldn’t you know it? They’d go on to win the Super Bowl that season, followed by trips to the Super Bowl and AFC Championship Game in each of Mathieu’s next two seasons in K.C. It appeared to be an awfully successful marriage between the two. Mathieu was proving to be the game-changer that the Chiefs’ defense needed, and the three-time Pro Bowler seemed to be taking a liking to the city, too!
Well, it appears as though the Chiefs don’t feel as though Mathieu was as important to their success as many of us may think. At least that’s what we’re led to believe, as the Chiefs not only refused to re-sign the star safety, but they didn’t even offer him a contract to begin with.
Mathieu described his mood as “depressed” when he wasn’t even offered a contract by the Chiefs, despite his preference to stay. I’d say a lot of Chiefs fans felt the same way, based on their responses on Twitter.

In his three season with the Chiefs, Mathieu recorded 13 interceptions, three sacks, a Super Bowl victory, and he was named a first-team All Pro twice.
