The Kansas City Chiefs had a spectacular 2018 regular season that resulted in a playoff win against the Indianapolis Colts, but it would soon come to an end after they lost a coin toss in OT and could do nothing as they watched the New England Patriots march down the field and win the game.
It was a scene that seemed to upset a lot of people because Patrick Mahomes never got the chance to get the ball and show what he could do with the current OT rule.
Two months later, the franchise wanted to make their voices heard by working on a proposal to change the overtime rules and guarantee that each team would get an offensive possession.
It was a tall task because the Chiefs needed to convince 23 other teams to support this proposed rule change.
Fast forward to May and that rule is not likely going into affect for the 2019 season.
The OT rule might need some tweaking, but proposing a change because you lost shouldn’t be a reason. If the Chiefs had received the ball and won the game, this proposal never would’ve happened and they know it.
