Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes tried to keep morale high for his wide receivers following Sunday’s frustrating loss to the Buffalo Bills.
The Chiefs’ loss to the Bills at Arrowhead did not come without controversy. Travis Kelce’s late go-ahead touchdown lateral to Kadarius Toney was called back because of an offside penalty on the latter.
It was easy for angry Chiefs fans to blame Toney for the loss, but Mahomes told reporters about the encouraging message to try and keep last year’s Super Bowl hero upright.
“Just be you man….You’re going to make mistakes. Stuff’s gonna happen in your life. How do you accept that adversity and get past it and do it the right way? Coach Reid preaches that…you make one mistake that’s not going to define you. It’s going to be how you respond to that mistake.”
The Bills’ defense forced a turnover on downs to seal a season-saving 20-17 victory. After the game, the usually calm Mahomes went off on the officials and had to be restrained by his teammates.
In their post-game press conferences, both Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid criticized the officiating as well.

The defending Super Bowl champions (now 8-5) have never lost more than five regular season games in a single campaign with Mahomes as their starting quarterback, but that streak is in jeopardy of ending this year.
Not only that, but KC is two games behind the Baltimore Ravens for the AFC’s top seed, and one game behind the Miami Dolphins for the No. 2 seed. So the Chiefs are facing a strong possibility of having to play a road postseason game for the first time in the Mahomes era.
