One of the top receiving prospects of the 2023 NFL Draft is reportedly on the Kansas City Chiefs’ radar.
The Chiefs have lost JuJu Smith-Schuster (signed with the New England Patriots) and Mecole Hardman (signed with the New York Jets). With the No. 31 pick in next month’s draft, it’s not hard to envision GM Brett Veach drafting a receiver early.
Speaking to Kenneth Teape of NFL Analysis Network, one NFL scout stated that the Chiefs are among the clubs interested in Boston College wide receiver Zay Flowers, whom many expect to be a first-round selection:
“Kansas City is one of the most interested teams in Flowers right now. There has even been some belief that they could look to trade up to get him if needed.”
In his final season of college football, Flowers recorded 78 receptions for 1,077 yards and 12 touchdowns. Those were all personal bests for Flowers, who spent four seasons in the NCAA.
Kansas City had two first-round picks in last year’s draft, one of which came from the Miami Dolphins in the Tyreek Hill trade. Many expected them to take a receiver in round one, but Veach doubled down on defense by taking cornerback Trent McDuffie and defensive end George Karlaftis. Veach used a second round-pick (No. 54 overall) on Western Michigan wideout Skyy Moore.
Of course, Veach has no regrets over his 2022 NFL draft class, as the rookies played instrumental roles in helping Kansas City win Super Bowl 57.

But after superstar tight end Travis Kelce, the receiving depth chart in Kansas City is rather thin. DeAndre Hopkins and Odell Beckham Jr. are still available, but either way, don’t be surprised if Veach tries to add one or two more pass-catchers in the early rounds of the draft.
