The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly set to play out the Super Bowl without one of their best defensive players.
Charles Omenihu, who made a huge play in the first half of Sunday’s AFC Championship Game as he got a strip sack on Lamar Jackson in the second quarter, headed to the locker room with a knee injury before halftime and was ruled out of the rest of the game early in the third quarter.
He told reporters he should be good to play in next month’s Super Bowl after the win and there was hope that would be the case. However, Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report is reporting that the defensive end has been diagnosed with a torn ACL, which will rule him out of the big game.
This comes as a huge blow to the Chiefs’ defense. Omenihu’s importance to the unit cannot be overstated, though they did manage to pull through against the Ravens without him in the second half of Sunday’s contest.
