The Kansas City Chiefs will be without one of their top offensive players for Sunday’s Super Bowl 58 showdown with the San Francisco 49ers.
On Friday, the Chiefs announced that All-Pro guard Joe Thuney will be out for Super Bowl 58 as he continues to recover from a pectoral injury he suffered in the Divisional Round against the Buffalo Bills. Thuney was also inactive for the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Thuney’s absence is obviously worrisome for a Chiefs’ offensive line that’s among the very best in football. Remember, the Chiefs were without star OTs Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz in their Super Bowl 55 blowout loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Kansas City’s offensive line has only allowed two sacks on Patrick Mahomes in the postseason, and both of those came against the Ravens in the AFC title game.
If the Chiefs defeat the 49ers, Thuney will have won his fourth Super Bowl championship. The standout guard also won rings with the Chiefs last year and with the New England Patriots in 2016 and 2018.
