Looks like we have another recent Las Vegas Raiders first round pick that we can officially stick a fork in the career of.
Damon Arnette had already been cut by the Raiders during the 2021 season when a viral video showed him uttering threats while brandishing a gun. Reports also circulated that he had crashed at least four rental cars during his rookie season. Simply put, the red flags were there. And they were quite obvious.
But that didn’t stop the Kansas City Chiefs from taking a chance on him, as they signed the troubled 19th overall pick from 2020 to their roster just over a week ago…
And it didn’t take them very long to realize that they had made a mistake.
Earlier today, it was reported that Arnette had been arrested in Las Vegas on gun and drug charges. According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, Arnette was arrested on “two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, carrying or concealing a gun without a permit, possession of marijuana or cannabis and possession of a class one or two level controlled substance.”

Shortly after, it was announced that the Chiefs had released Arnette, which comes as no surprise. His contract with the team wasn’t set to begin until the start of the 2022 season in March.
It’s anyone’s guess as to why the Chiefs even signed Arnette in the first place — especially considering the fact that they had previously cut ties with star running back Kareem Hunt for what seemed to be much less than what Arnette had already been done before they signed him.
