It looks like the Chicago Bears will have a new home in the near future. After spending the last 50 years playing their home games at Soldier Field, it appears as though this upcoming season may be the last one for the Bears at the historic stadium.
Last year, Bears ownership purchased the 326-acre Arlington Park Property in Arlington Heights, which is a suburb of Chicago, about 25 miles North West of the city’s downtown. The deal with Churchill Downs Inc. for the former race track came at the hefty price of $197.2 million.
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is doing everything she can to keep the Bears from leaving, as it was recently announced that Soldier Field will be undergoing a major renovation.
In 2002, a $632 million renovation was done at Soldier Field, however, even after that, the Stadium still has the smallest capacity in the NFL at 61,500.
It appears as though the owner of the Bears are ready to go bigger and better at their new home in Arlington Heights. It is being reported that in addition to a new stadium, there will be a entertainment district at the new site which will include restaurants, bars and even a hotel.
