The Tennessee Smokies, the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, was a team you likely didn’t even knew existed before today, but they put themselves in the spotlight when they decided to speak up on Colin Kaepernick and Nike.
On Wednesday, the Smokies took to Twitter and posted a series of photos showing that they carved Betsy Ross flag out in the infield dirt around second base.
They would soon receive backlash and delete the post.

The shoe, Nike Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July, had a flag with 13 white stars and 13 alternating red and white stripes in a circle on it.

Nike pulled the shoe after Kaepernick spoke out against the design being connected to an era of slavery.
Kaepernick has been out of football since the 2016 season after he kneeled during the playing of the National Anthem. He woud go on to sue the league, alleging collusion because of their political stances. That lawsuit was settled in February.
