The Chicago Bears have waived a former highly-touted veteran running back.
Per the team’s official communications, the team has waived fourth-year running back Darrynton Evans. The 25-year-old, who spent his first two seasons with the Tennessee Titans, was in his second season with the Bears.
Tennessee drafted Evans in the third round (93rd overall) back in 2020, hoping he could provide depth behind star running back Derrick Henry. Evans never got it going in Music City, however, seeing a mere 16 carries (61 yards, no touchdowns) in six games with the Titans.
The Bears picked up Evans last year and gave him slightly more playing time. Evans appeared in six games and saw 14 carries for 64 yards.
He appeared in five games for the Bears this season, totaling a career-best 105 rushing yards and a touchdown on 30 carries. Evans also saw some action in the passing game, recording seven receptions for 49 yards.
But Evans was never going to see much playing time behind the dynamic running back duo of Khalil Herbert, D’Onta Foreman or dual-threat QB Justin Fields. Even rookie Roschon Johnson (38 rushes, 167 yards, one touchdown) has seen more playing time than Evans.
