The Chicago Bears are threatening to poach a hated division rival for one of their best players not named Aaron Rodgers. One of the Packers’ biggest offseason tasks is finding a way to retain All-Pro receiver Davante Adams, who is slated to become a free agent on March 16.
Free agency is two months away, and there has been talks of the Chicago Bears possibly looking to add Davante Adams to their roster.
Adams has a relationship with former Packers QB coach Luke Getsy — who joined Bears coach Matt Eberflus’ staff as the offensive coordinator last week.
Via the above report:
“GETSY AND DAVANTE ARE EXTREMELY CLOSE. DAVANTE WAS THE VERY FIRST PERSON LUKE TOLD HE IS TAKING THE OC JOB IN CHICAGO BEFORE EVEN MATT (LAFLEUR), BRIAN (GUTEKUNST), RUSS (BALL), OR MARK (MURPHY). THAT SHOULD TELL YOU THEIR RELATIONSHIP.”
“ONE OF THE UNSUNG HEROES IS COACH GETSY,” ADAMS SAID OF HIS WIDE RECEIVERS COACH IN THE FIRST TWO YEARS HIS CAREER TOOK OFF AFTER STRUGGLING IN 2014 AND ’15. “LUKE GETSY IS A COACH WHO I REALLY REALLY ENJOYED HAVING. … I HAD A LOT OF RESPECT FOR GETS AND WHAT HE DID WITH US BECAUSE HE PLAYED QUARTERBACK, SO THE WAY HE DOVE INTO THE WIDEOUT POSITION AS FAR AS THE PARTICULARS, THAT HELPED OPEN UP MY EYES EVEN MORE SO THAN WHAT I LEARNED FROM (WILLIAMS) BEFORE THAT. SO HE’S A GUY WHO’S TRYING TO BE A MASTER AT HIS CRAFT.”
The Packers star receiver is reportedly asking for a contract to pay him $30 million per year. The Packers are not expected to give him that and are much more likely to franchise tag him instead.

Earlier this week, Packers coach Matt LaFleur said that he is hopeful that the Packers and Adams can come to terms on a new deal before the start of free agency.
“We kind of talked everything through and, again, another guy that we’re hopeful that we can come to an agreement with,” LaFleur said, via Nick Shook of NFL.com. “Obviously, he’s done so much on the field, but I think it’s still the stuff that you all don’t get to see within the meeting room, with how he talks to his teammates, with how he sets a standard for everybody, there’s a reason he was voted a captain, rightfully so. He earned that.
“I told him that he’s definitely earned the respect of not only his teammates but all of his coaches, as well, and I think everybody in this organization. Just his ability to compartmentalize his own situation and go out there and compete at the level he did each and every week, putting himself out there, obviously, in a contract year and just bringing it and playing at the highest of levels. He’s the best receiver in the league.”
The 29-year-old caught 123 of 169 targets for 1,553 yards and 11 touchdowns during the 2021 season. Over the past two seasons, Adams has caught 238 passes for 2,927 yards and 29 touchdowns.
Adams has been a Pro Bowler each of the last five years and was an All-Pro the past two seasons. He is definitely worth whatever he wants.
