The Chicago Bears could be down one of their starting linebackers once the 2022 season kicks off, as the newly acquired Matt Adams will likely be facing some disciplinary action after his actions last night.
According to TMZ, Adams was arrested at roughly 6:45pm yesterday and charged with misdemeanor unlawful use of a weapon – carrying/possession a firearm. He was also cited for having a high capacity magazine and metal-piercing bullets.
He is currently in custody and is set to appear in court some time in August.
The report states that cops found Adams near a Jeep that was reported stolen. When they questioned him, they found a loaded handgun in the middle console and an extended mag in the trunk of the vehicle.
TMZ adds that Adams does in fact have a permit for the gun, but it was not issued in Illinois. They also state that the owner of the stolen Jeep declined to press charges because he felt it was all just a misunderstanding.
The 26-year-old linebacker just signed with the Bears this offseason, after spending the first four years of his career in Indy. He is currently listed as the starting strongside linebacker on most Bears depth charts out there.
