If the Broncos release quarterback Russell Wilson, the team will be left with the largest “dead money” salary cap hit in NFL history. They seem to be headed for that pretty soon.
Despite contrary belief, it is going to be very difficult for the Denver Broncos to navigate a trade for quarterback Russell Wilson so a release may be their only option.
Should that happen, at least one team is expected to check in on him.
A new rumor says the Chicago Bears could be interested in possibly signing the former Super Bowl champion.
If this union does happen, Wilson might be brought in as a bridge quarterback as the Bears are expected to trade Justin Fields and select Caleb Williams first overall in the NFL Draft.
Williams could either start or sit while Wilson plays and teaches him the ropes.

Wilson got benched for the final few games of the 2023 regular season in favor of backup QB Jarrett Stidham and he was reportedly told he would be cut.
Wilson, a 9-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion while a member of the Seattle Seahawks, inked a five-year, $242.6 million deal with the Broncos ahead of the 2022 campaign.
Denver will owe the 35-year-old quarterback $85 million in dead money across the next two seasons, which should allow whatever team signs Wilson to do so at a reasonable number.
Wilson completed 66.4% of his pass attempts this season, gaining 3,070 yards and throwing for 26 touchdowns against 8 interceptions.
Caleb Williams is set to take the NFL by storm. Last year, he had 266 completions, completing 68.6% of his passes for 3633 yards, 30 touchdowns, five interceptions, and a rating of 170.2.
