A bar owner in Chicago is down several thousand after the Bears suffered yet another loss, taking their record for the season to 0-4 while extending their losing streak to 14 games.
The Bears are nearly a year removed from their last win, which came on October 24th. But Kris Jackson, the owner of the Claddagh Ring Pub near Winnemac Park in Chicago was pretty sure they would beat the Denver Broncos on Sunday. After all, Sean Payton’s side had surrendered a historic 70 points to the Miami Dolphins the week before.
Surprisingly enough, the Bears ended up on the losing end, with the Broncos scoring 17 straight points in the fourth quarter to win 31-28, leaving Jackson with over $5,000 in tabs, according to Block Club Chicago’s Alex V. Hernandez,
The bar had a promo running on the day that guaranteed patrons would not have to pay their drink tabs if the Bears lost. To be eligible, they would need to get to the establishment before the game and close their tabs by the end of the third quarter.
“The Bears are on such a bad losing streak. A lot of people kind of gave up and aren’t willing to waste their Sundays in a bar watching them. I thought it was a good idea to create a promotion to get customers to come back and watch the games,” Jackson explained.
Turns out he wasn’t wrong; he’s just got a really costly tab on his hands.

Asked if he would consider running the promo again, Jackson said “I don’t know if I’ll run that same exact special again, no.”
However, he has promised to run a promo referencing the losing streak that will get people to come out again.
