A massive blockbuster trade proposal has a top AFC team landing Washington Commanders’ star edge rusher Chase Young.
In a surprise move, the Commanders declined the fifth-year option on Young’s rookie contract — making him eligible to enter free agency next year. As such, the 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year has been widely mentioned in recent NFL trade rumors.
Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine proposed an intriguing trade that has the Commanders dealing Young to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for fellow 2020 first-round draft choice and linebacker Patrick Queen as well as a 2024 fourth-round pick:
“It feels like the Baltimore Ravens are the forgotten contender in the AFC. Not only did they get to the postseason without Lamar Jackson down the stretch, but they were also knocking on the door to score a go-ahead touchdown in the wild-card round when Sam Hubbard took a fumble 98 yards the other way.
But if the Ravens want to continue to contend in the conference that boasts Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert, they have to play great defense.
Adding an edge-rusher such as Chase Young would go a long way in accomplishing that goal. Odafe Oweh and David Ojabo are a promising young duo, but Young would add another young option who demonstrated a high ceiling when he won Rookie of the Year in 2020…
The Commanders would get a steady presence at linebacker, while the Ravens would get an edge-rusher who could help take their defense to the next level.”
The Ravens unquestionably need some edge-rushing help. They decided not to bring back veteran Justin Houston, who led the club with 9.5 sacks last season. Calais Campbell (he signed with the Atlanta Falcons) and Justin Madubuike tied for second among all Ravens in sacks with 5.5.
Young led Washington to a surprise NFC East division title in 2020 after recording 7.5 sacks, four pass defenses and as many forced fumbles. Unfortunately, a torn ACL he suffered mid-season in 2021 has limited Young to 12 total games over the last two years.

Even though Young only played in three games last season, Washington allowed the third-fewest yards and finished ninth in scoring defense. Young is indeed expendable, especially considering the Commanders already have stars Daron Payne, Montez sweat and Jonathan Allen leading their pass rush.
