Chase Claypool has quickly fallen out of favor in Chicago and it only took one game into the 2023 season.
The Chicago Bears had a lot to fix after their 38-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 1. One of those things was wide receiver Chase Claypool looked like a person who did not care to put in much effort.
The issue wasn’t Claypool’s receiving, but his perimeter blocking. He was putting in such little effort that people were openly clowning him all week about it.
Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports that Claypool has been told that if he has another situation like that this week, he will be deactivated for game day and “possibly even shipped out of town again.”
This is a terrible look for Claypool or the Bears, who sent a second-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for Claypool in November 2022. His production has not met the price of acquiring him. In eight games with the Bears, including the opener, Claypool has totaled 14 catches for 140 yards.
Last week, Claypool was targeted twice by quarterback Justin Fields, and both passes resulted in incompletions.
